Carl Christian's work is inspired by a deep reverence and awe for nature and its power.  It is expressed through the use of tactile and implied textures, acrylic paints, watercolors, found objects and various other materials applied to board.  Although the work is totally abstract, Christian's process is inspired by the improvisation and spontaneity of jazz music. The colors and materials often mimic nature or what nature has wrought over time.
